Ottomans and footstools vary in shape more than in size. Measure the top surface and the height, and check whether yours is round or square before choosing.
| Furniture | Top surface (inches) | Size to select |
|---|---|---|
| Small footstool | 16 x 24 in | 40 x 60 cm |
| Standard ottoman | Top up to 20 in across | S |
| Large ottoman | Top 20 to 28 in across | M |
| Coffee-table ottoman | Top 28 to 36 in across | L |
| Oversized ottoman | Top over 36 in across | XL |
A note on units. Measure your furniture in inches, then use the table above to find the size to select. Our size selector shows centimetres, because that is how covers are manufactured, so the table gives you both.
In the United States, ottoman usually means an upholstered footrest, sometimes large enough to serve as a coffee table. A pouf is smaller, softer and often has no internal frame. They need different covers: a pouf cover has to hold a shape the furniture itself does not provide.
If yours carries a tray, drinks or books, choose a dense, flat-woven fabric. A plush finish will mark where the tray sits and never fully recover.
| If your priority is | Look for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Feet up daily | Dense woven fabric | Resists the abrasion of heels and shoes. |
| Use as a table | Flat, tight weave | Stays level under a tray and does not crush. |
| Children and pets | Machine-washable cover | An ottoman takes more direct contact than a sofa. |
No. The corners will sit loose and catch. Choose a cover cut for a round top.
Only if the top measurements match. Height matters as much as width here.
A cover with an elasticated hem grips under the rim. On a very smooth upholstery, a non-slip band underneath helps.
Send us your measurements at support@frenchcovers.com and we will tell you which size to order. Include the width across the arms, the depth of the seat and a photo of the piece if you can. It takes us a minute and saves you a return.
