Most dining chair covers are made to stretch across a range of frames rather than to a single measurement. Three quick checks tell you whether your chairs are within that range.
| Measurement | Universal fit range (inches) | Equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Seat width | 15 to 20 in | 38 to 50 cm |
| Seat depth | 15 to 20 in | 38 to 50 cm |
| Backrest height | 14 to 24 in | 35 to 60 cm |
| Backrest width | 13 to 20 in | 33 to 50 cm |
A note on units. Measure your furniture in inches, then use the table above to find the size to select. Our size selector shows centimetres, because that is how covers are manufactured, so the table gives you both.
Covers sized for a standard dining chair will not sit correctly on chairs with armrests, on bar stools, on chairs with an open or slatted back, or on moulded shell chairs. Those shapes need a cover made for them.
Measure one chair, then check that the rest of the set is identical. Mixed sets are common around a family table, and two sizes are sometimes needed.
| If your priority is | Look for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Family meals | Waterproof backing | Spills wipe off instead of soaking into the pad. |
| A formal table | Jacquard weave | Holds a crisp line across the backrest. |
| Daily use | Stretch polyester | Goes back on straight after every wash. |
Covers with an elasticated hem and a non-slip band hold well through normal use. Straighten the seat after the table is cleared and the cover keeps its shape.
No. Armrests need an opening the cover does not have. Look for an armchair or accent chair cover instead.
Yes. Wash cold on a gentle cycle and air dry. This is the main reason to cover a dining chair in the first place.
Send us your measurements at support@frenchcovers.com and we will tell you which size to order. Include the width across the arms, the depth of the seat and a photo of the piece if you can. It takes us a minute and saves you a return.
