Outdoor covers are sized in three dimensions, because they have to clear the furniture rather than hug it. Measure length, depth and height, then add a margin.

How to measure

Length and depth. Measure the footprint at the widest points.

Height. Measure from the ground to the highest point, including raised cushions.

Add 2 to 4 inches on each dimension. A cover that is too tight traps moisture against the frame and tears at the seams in wind.
A note on units. Measure your furniture in inches, then use the table above to find the size to select. Our size selector shows centimetres, because that is how covers are manufactured, so the table gives you both.
Common measuring mistakes
- Buying a cover that fits exactly. Outdoor covers need slack for airflow.
- Measuring without the cushions in place, then finding the cover too short.
- Letting the cover pool on the ground, where water collects and wicks upward.
Why a snug cover is the wrong cover
Outdoor covers need air movement underneath. A cover stretched tight holds condensation against the furniture, which is how metal frames rust and cushions grow mould. Slight slack, secured with straps, protects better.
Winter storage
Clean and dry the furniture before covering it for the season. Covering damp furniture in autumn is the single most common cause of mould found in spring.

Frequently asked questions
Should the cover reach the ground?
It should clear the legs but not pool on the ground, where water collects. A few inches of clearance is ideal.
Will it stay on in wind?
Look for straps or a drawcord hem. On an exposed site, secure the straps under the frame rather than around the legs.
Do I need to remove the cushions?
Store them indoors if you can. If not, keep them under the cover and dry, never damp.
