Cushion covers are sized to the insert, not to the sofa. Measure the insert you already own and match it to the table below.
| Cushion type | Insert size (inches) | Size to select |
|---|---|---|
| Standard square | 18 x 18 in | 45 x 45 cm |
| Large square | 20 x 20 in | 50 x 50 cm |
| Lumbar / bolster | 12 x 20 in | 30 x 50 cm |
A note on units. Measure your furniture in inches, then use the table above to find the size to select. Our size selector shows centimetres, because that is how covers are manufactured, so the table gives you both.
An 18 by 18 inch square is the standard sofa cushion in the United States and covers most needs. A 12 by 20 inch lumbar cushion sits behind the lower back and works well on deep sofas and armchairs.
An odd number reads as deliberate on a three-seat sofa: three or five. On a loveseat, two matching cushions are usually enough.
| If your priority is | Look for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| A layered look | Mixed textures | Two finishes in the same palette read as considered. |
| Pets and children | Machine-washable weave | The cover washes, the insert stays clean. |
| Warmth in winter | Velvet or boucle | Adds visual weight to a room without new furniture. |
Check the product page. Some listings are the cover only, others include the insert, and the option is stated in the size selector.
Select the 18 by 18 inch cover. A slightly larger cover sits softly, whereas a smaller one strains at the seams.
Yes. Close the zip before washing so the teeth do not catch the fabric.
Send us your measurements at support@frenchcovers.com and we will tell you which size to order. Include the width across the arms, the depth of the seat and a photo of the piece if you can. It takes us a minute and saves you a return.
